THE STORY BEHIND THIS PRODUCT
When I was a little girl growing up in a dusty Karoo town, I naturally wanted to get the hell out of there and experience the bright lights of all things other than the nothing I saw in the dust and draadkarretjie tracks remnant of yesterday’s dreaming.
Recently I found a drawing I did as this 6-year-old girl and realised that the markings I make years later still reflect the same characters: the magic zebra, the made up mense, the tablecloth settings for family and strangers.
'Are We There Yet?' speaks to home - the threads that bind us to the unspeakable umbilical cord of belonging. This work talks to that feeling of returning to your childhood home, and how the same dusty roads of nothing suddenly seemed filled with all that we need.
